Reality TV is wish fulfillment. Haven’t you always wanted to perform in front of an audience of millions or land a cool job working for the Donald? Whatever your fantasy is, chances are there is a reality show based around it. Well if your fantasy involves skanks with a shortage of clothing and guys with ample access to steroids, the PigPen has got you covered this Saturday night!

Five reality TV stars are making a pit stop Saturday night at the PigPen in Allentown which makes this your chance to party with 12 Pack from I Love New York and Lil’ Hood from For the Love of Ray J. All the important information can be found at the Facebook event page. No word on drink specials at this point, but I’m sure they’ll throw something your way.

In case you haven’t heard there’s a huge storm coming our way. It’s expected to drop anywhere from 4-8 inches of snow on the Valley (even more in the southern parts of our region) and make for some interesting travel conditions on the weekend of the Super Bowl. There’s a lot going this weekend, so I’m gonna keep things brief and do a quick roundup of all the various events.

Friday – February 5

Thursday – January 21, 2010 – Twisted Thursdays @ The PigPen

I’ll be straight up, I haven’t been to the PigPen in a while. It’s not the first place I think of when I’m looking to go out and party and, up until recently, they had a completely unnecessary cover charge. With most other bars out there not charging cover, it didn’t make any sense to go to the PigPen. But the cover charge is gone and, from what I’ve been hearing around town, things are really picking up at the PigPen. Trans/Event has taken over the weekly Thursday night party at the PigPen and it’s apparently going really well.

Twisted Thursday starts tonight at 8PM and is a 21+ event. Sorry to all you kids out there who aren’t 21 yet…you’re gonna have to sit this one out. The Facebook event page for Twisted Thursdays has all the information you need…but I’ll run through some of the important stuff. NO COVER, free laser light bowling and arcade games, $2 Bud Light & $3 SoCo shots from 10-12. It also looks like they’ve got a lot of entertainment lined up as well. “DJ Tommy Diz ‘Philly’, opening band Tim & Jules, Gogo dancers, fire performers & more!”

I’d like to say that I’m going to be able to make it out to Twisted Thursday tonight, but prior engagements are going to keep me away. But I definitely plan on checking out this up and coming event some other time. What do you think? Have you been to Twisted Thursdays at The PigPen before? Is it as good as I’ve been hearing about?

Mardi Gras Party Roundup

I hope you all are sufficiently recovered from New Year’s Eve because it’s time to start thinking about the next big holiday in our party year. All you Catholics out there probably know the origin of Mardi Gras so allow me to enlighten those of you who don’t . Mardi Gras, or Fat Tuesday, takes place the day before Lent begins on Ash Wednesday. Traditionally viewed as a final night of debauchery before setting aside such things for Lent, to most of us these days its become just another excuse to get out and party.

So far several bars in our area have already announced big party plans, but you can expect more to come as we get closer to Mardi Gras. Check back often for any updates I may add to this post.

According to a Facebook status update, it looks like the PigPen has finally caved in and killed their cover charge. Back when they first opened there was a cover charge every night of the week (LAME) and not too long ago they dropped the cover charge Sunday-Thursday. After that they dropped the cover charge for all women, effectively making every night ladies night at The PigPen (also LAME). But I guess that wasn’t panning out too well either.

Since most major bars in the Lehigh Valley don’t charge cover (oh, and have you heard that the economy is pretty bad these days?), it’s nice to see the PigPen getting with it and losing the cover. From a business perspective I totally understand wanting to charge a cover at a huge place like the PigPen. But throw us regular folk a bone here. This isn’t NYC or Philly..no one wants to pay $8 to get into a bar in the Lehigh Valley.

What are your thoughts about this? Did you see this coming? Should it have happened a long time ago?

Tuesday, Wednesday, & Thursday – November 24-26, 2009 – Thanksgiving Party Roundup

Thanksgiving Eve is easily one of the biggest bar nights of the year, an influx of college students returning home for the holiday leads to packed out local bars. In previous years it was all about hitting up the bars and pubs closest to wherever you went to HS. Not so anymore, or at least that is the hope from some of the larger bars in the area. Although there will be a large chunk of people going to neighborhood bars and pubs, places like The Firehouse, The PigPen and Drinky’s are hoping you’ll skip your local tavern and head downtown for Thanksgiving Eve revelry.

What I’ve got for you here is a roundup of all the bigger celebrations being thrown by some of the larger bars in the area. Chances are if you’re gonna go a local haunt you already know where your friends from high school are gonna be, so I’m not gonna get into that. But if you didn’t go to high school in the area and don’t know where to party this Wednesday night, maybe you’ll be able to find something to help make the most of your time off of work.
