BFD1

Sometimes words just aren’t necessary. Like when looking at this massive burger for instance. Nothing I could say could do this monstrosity of a sandwich justice. So I’m just gonna show you some pictures. Big thanks to Steve Febbraro of the Lehigh Valley Photography blog for letting me repost his pics. His full gallery of BFD Burger Eat Off photos is available here.

SEEN – September 17, 2009 – Grand Opening of The Firehouse
Friday, September 18th, 2009

Well, it finally happened. Despite the overwhelming odds against them, The Firehouse has opened. If you didn’t make it out last night, you missed a really good time. Hundreds of people showed up to check out the newest addition to the Lehigh Valley’s nightlife scene. The Firehouse ended up hitting capacity around 11:45 last night, causing a line at the door and a wait to get in for anyone showing up fashionably late.

Despite the fact that most of the bar and wait staff were inexperienced, it seemed to go off without a hitch. Not only were drinks served with speed and competency, but prices were very reasonable. Two Lagers for myself and a Bud bottle for a friend only cost $8. One of the things that I really liked about last night was the mix of people who attended. It seemed like there was a good group of both locals and college students. Take a look.

SEEN – June 27, 2009 – PULSE
Tuesday, June 30th, 2009

It’s been a couple of days since PULSE at Starter’s Riverport and I’m still kicking myself for not making it out. And, to make matters worse, Cap Cee has just posted pictures…this party seriously looks like it was off the chain. The full album is viewable here, it’s a Facebook album so you have to be logged in to see them. The pictures were taken by Mike Panic, an awesome photographer, web developer, and blogger. Check out the Audio Dynamikz blog for Cap Cee’s write up of the event. Note to self, never take a “quick nap” on Saturday night ever again.

Seen – West Allentown Pub Crawl – May 2, 2009
Sunday, May 3rd, 2009

A word of advice to pub crawl newbies, when participating in a pub crawl don’t start at the last bar and work your way backwards. Take it from me, it generally means smaller crowds and gets you lots of strange looks from people when you bust into a mostly empty bar shouting “pub crawl”. But, despite these setbacks, I had an awesome time on the pub crawl last night. I think it’s probably safe to say that everyone who participated last night did. The number of participants last night was definitely smaller than the SPD pub crawl a couple of months ago, but that just meant it was easier to get drinks at the bars. There were also noticeably less people wearing kilts. It was cool to see the Liberty Street Tavern back open. Muhlenberg kids, you were right…their pizza is awesome. Apparently the next pub crawl scheduled to happen in West Allentown is in September. Not sure if I’ll be able to wait that long…

Seen – Glow 2 – April 25, 2009
Sunday, April 26th, 2009

I don’t know about you guys, but I had an awesome time at Glow last night. Cap Cee and his crew brought their A-game, the visual elements were top notch, and, most importantly, the crowd was there to have a good time. I came with pretty high expectations and they were definitely met. What did everyone think? Did you enjoy Glow as much as I did?

Seen – March 28, 2009 – Starter's Riverport
Sunday, March 29th, 2009

When going down the stairs that lead to 40 Below, you never know what to expect. The crowd could be huge, but it could also be nonexistent. Last night it wasn’t empty, but because it’s such a big place it felt empty. To my surprise, they weren’t charging cover at the door, which is always fine by me. My friends and I stuck around for one drink (Those $5 Red Bull & Vodka’s and 2 for $8 Corona’s. Yeah, what a steal!) and then bailed to Starter’s Riverport. Starter’s is such a reliable place, you can pretty much always count on a decent crowd. DJ Cap Cee and Starter’s awesome bartenders kept things going all night long. Thank you Starter’s, you saved my Saturday night.

Seen – March 27, 2009 – Legends
Saturday, March 28th, 2009

When you go to a bar, what are you looking for? If you’re looking for lots of drunk people, slow bar service, and a strong chance of getting attacked then Legends in Allentown is your new favorite bar. Last night was standard Legends, the dance floor was pretty crowded and the bar tenders threw paper napkins into the crowd with reckless abandon. To be fair though, Legends did surprise me in one aspect…there were no drunk skanks doing body shots on top of the bar. Way to go Legends! If you’ve ever been to Legends, none of this is new to you…that’s just how Legends rolls.

Seen – March 21, 2009 – Pub Crawl
Sunday, March 22nd, 2009

Allentown, I didn’t know you had it in you. Last night probably close to three hundred people turned out to 8 different bars in Allentown’s West End to celebrate St Patrick’s Day one last time. It was really cool to see so many different people all out having a great time in an area off the beaten path. Pub crawls like this need to happen much more often.

Oh, Allentown Brewworks… I want to love you; I really do. You’re beautiful, your beer tastes great, and it just feels right. But why can’t you draw a crowd? I mean, the 40-50 people that were there last night all had a good time, but on SPD that’s just not enough. Maybe that’s not what you’re about though. Maybe you are calling out to the people who just want to get a couple of drinks and catch up with friends in a laid back atmosphere. Which is totally cool. Maybe we just want different things.

Dear Jim Thorpe,

I don’t know what kind of man you were, if you liked to party, or even if you liked to have a good time. But today I think you would’ve been proud of the town that now bears your name. Because of today Jim, I’ve now completely changed my opinion on parades. See, parades as a rule suck and going to one is pretty much a death sentence. But the fact is on a Sunday afternoon in early March what else is even going on? So thanks for kicking off my spring…I’ll see you next year.
