Mardi Gras Party Roundup
Monday, January 11th, 2010

I hope you all are sufficiently recovered from New Year’s Eve because it’s time to start thinking about the next big holiday in our party year. All you Catholics out there probably know the origin of Mardi Gras so allow me to enlighten those of you who don’t . Mardi Gras, or Fat Tuesday, takes place the day before Lent begins on Ash Wednesday. Traditionally viewed as a final night of debauchery before setting aside such things for Lent, to most of us these days its become just another excuse to get out and party.

So far several bars in our area have already announced big party plans, but you can expect more to come as we get closer to Mardi Gras. Check back often for any updates I may add to this post.

Thursday – December 31, 2009 – New Year’s Eve 2009
Tuesday, December 22nd, 2009

It wouldn’t be a holiday in the Valley if our locals bars and clubs weren’t trying to cash in on it by throwing a huge themed party. The next holiday to get this treatment is New Year’s Eve. It helps that New Year’s Eve isn’t really that much of a holiday to begin with…More of a lazy excuse to get drunk, kiss random people at midnight, and start the new year off with a hangover.

Tuesday, Wednesday, & Thursday – November 24-26, 2009 – Thanksgiving Party Roundup
Monday, November 23rd, 2009

ThanksgivingThanksgiving Eve is easily one of the biggest bar nights of the year, an influx of college students returning home for the holiday leads to packed out local bars. In previous years it was all about hitting up the bars and pubs closest to wherever you went to HS. Not so anymore, or at least that is the hope from some of the larger bars in the area. Although there will be a large chunk of people going to neighborhood bars and pubs, places like The Firehouse, The PigPen and Drinky’s are hoping you’ll skip your local tavern and head downtown for Thanksgiving Eve revelry.

What I’ve got for you here is a roundup of all the bigger celebrations being thrown by some of the larger bars in the area. Chances are if you’re gonna go a local haunt you already know where your friends from high school are gonna be, so I’m not gonna get into that. But if you didn’t go to high school in the area and don’t know where to party this Wednesday night, maybe you’ll be able to find something to help make the most of your time off of work.

Tuesday – November 24 – Thanksgiving-Eve Eve

Looper’sBethlehem – Natalie and the crew at Looper’s are getting the Thanksgiving celebrations off to an early start. Enjoy $6.50 Apple Bourbon Betty Pints, $5 Dragonball ZZZZ pints, $5 Cran Apple Pints, $8 Pumpkin Pie Martinis, $5 Shock Top’s & Winter Bourbon Cask Ale’s, and Special App’s & Dinner’s all night!

Looper’sBethlehem – Same as above, or if you’re too lazy to scroll up…enjoy $6.50 Apple Bourbon Betty Pints, $5 Dragonball ZZZZ pints, $5 Cran Apple Pints, $8 Pumpkin Pie Martinis, $5 Shock Top’s & Winter Bourbon Cask Ale’s, and Special App’s & Dinner’s all night!

Drinky’sEaston – Again not much info about this other than that DJ JJ Sands & 107 The Bone’s Scotty Brilliant will be running the show.

Thursday – Thanksgiving Day – (This is for when you get tired of hanging with your relatives)

Roosevelt’s 21stBethlehem – Little bit more information about Roosevelt’s Thanksgiving Day party. Enjoy $4 Rhino & vodkas and 99¢ Well Drinks (10-12) as you watch the Giants and the Bronco’s. DJ Cyn takes over at 10PM.

Thursday, Friday & Saturday – October 29-31, 2009 – Halloween Party Round Up
Monday, October 26th, 2009

If you’re on Facebook, chances are you’ve been getting a lot of invitations to Halloween parties thrown by local bars, which is a good thing. But for those of you not on Facebook or those of you who are feeling a bit bombarded by all the options out there, allow me to make this holiday a little easier for you. Below you’ll find a list of as many as parties as I could get information on. I have them organized by day with all the important info such as DJ, cover charge, prizes, and drink specials in there too. This doesn’t mean there aren’t other parties out there, these are just the ones I could find info on. Know of any other cool parties? Let me know in the comment section so I can update this post.

Thursday – October 29

The PigPenAllentownThe PigPen is getting things started early this year and, as far as I know, are the only people throwing a Halloween costume party this Thursday. A flyer found on Facebook doesn’t give a whole lot of information, but does confirm that they are throwing a costume party hosted by DJ Synystr with a $300 first prize for best costume.

Friday – October 30

40 BelowBethlehemHigh Energy Halloween40 Below is keeping it real for those under 21. Friday night’s party is 18 to party, 21 to drink. There’s no cover for anyone over 21+, but if you still aren’t old enough to drink, expect a $10 entrance fee. DJ Cap Cee will be providing beats for the party which features $200 in prizes for the sexiest and scariest costumes.

Starter’s RiverportBethlehemMischief Night with DJ Girl 6Not sure this really counts as a Halloween party as there’s no mention of costumes on the Facebook event page, but I thought it was probably worth mentioning anyway. I don’t know anything about DJ Girl 6 other than what is on Facebook, but according to Starter’s Riverport she is “Las Vegas’ Hottest Video DJ”, which could be cool to check out.

UPDATE – Looper’sBethlehemApologies to the crew at Looper’s for missing their two night Halloween party this weekend. Friday night at Looper’s you are encouraged to dress up as your favorite musician dead or alive. I’m already envisioning some great costume ideas…Angus Young, Buddy Holly, Freddy Mercury. Come on out and enjoy great themed drinks with discounts for people who show up in costume.

Saturday – October 31

The FirehouseBethlehemA Nightmare on BroadwayFor their first Halloween the people at The Firehouse are going big. They’ve brought in Trans/Event and are stepping things up with a party that will include two DJs, gogo dancers, and fire performers. There’s an $8 cover for the Halloween Happy Hour which runs from 7-10PM, and a $5 cover after 10PM. There’s also going to be several giveaways including flat screen TVs, Eagles tickets, and many more.

Starter’s RiverportBethlehemMonster Mash Up 3Audio Dynamikz has done Halloween before, they’ve been doing it for 3 years now in fact. This year at Starter’s enjoy audio and visuals provided by DJ Cap Cee and DJ $weetlife, $2.50 Coors Light, and $4 Marani vodka cocktails. They’ll also be giving away $500 in cash prizes for the scariest and sexiest costumes. Make sure you dress up because there’s a $5 cover charge if you aren’t wearing a costume.

UPDATE – Looper’sBethlehemSaturday night’s party at Looper’s is couples themed. Find a partner and go as a team. Could be a musical duo, a famous celebrity couple, or a couple from a TV sitcom…Ross and Rachel anyone?

Roosevelt’s 21stBethlehemDressed to KillIt’s also Roosevelt’s first Halloween party this year. Their Halloween party will be hosted by DJ Dangerous Dan and feature any pint for $2 from 9-11, $4 Rhino & vodka’s, and $500 in cash prizes for costumes.

Wow. When you see it all on one page like that it’s a lot to take in. The question is…where will you be celebrating Halloween?? And what’s your costume gonna be? Share in the comment section below.

Friday – October 2, 2009 – Three Course Friday
Friday, October 2nd, 2009

It’s Friday and, I don’t know about you, but my week has been long. In honor of the weekend I’m making things easy for you tonight. I’ve got three ideas for you; a three course meal of Lehigh Valley entertainment. Like any good three course meal, I’ve got an appetizer, a main course, and some dessert.

First let’s start things off tonight with dinner and drinks on Bethlehem’s Southside, it’s First Friday tonight. There are a number of awesome restaurants downtown, so take your pick! Try the chicken marsala and a glass of red wine at Sal’s Brick Oven Pizza. Or the Sea Bass tacos and the Happy Hollydays martini at Looper’s Grille and Bar. Or a burger and beer at J.P. MacGrady’s. All of them sound pretty good to me, it might just depend on what I’m in the mood for tonight. What about you? What sounds good to you?

Moving on to our second course…The Associated Mess, the Lehigh Valley’s premier improv troupe, is performing a show at the Touchstone Theater tonight at 8PM. Improv comedy is something that needs to be seen live to fully appreciate it. The Mess has been putting on hilarious shows on a regular basis now for months. Full details, including this week’s cast, can be found on the Facebook event page. If you haven’t seen them yet, what are you waiting for? Doors open at 7:30, so you better make that dinner reservation early.

What three course meal would be complete without dessert? Our dessert tonight is drinks (and maybe some shots) over at Drinky’s in Easton. They’re having their WTF? Friday party, which is hosted by DJ Dangerous Dan and 107.1 The Bone’s Scotty Brilliant. Come on out in the craziest outfit you can find and enjoy $.99 Miller Lite drafts, $4 Red Bull & vodkas, and for tonight any draft between 10-12 is only $2. There are prizes for the craziest outfit, so go big or go home.

So there you have it, your night in a nutshell. Didn’t I make that easy for you?

Friday-Sunday – September 4-6 – Labor Day Weekend
Friday, September 4th, 2009

I’ll be real with everyone right now, I hope you all leave the Lehigh Valley this weekend. And I mean that in the nicest of ways. Labor Day weekend is about getting to the beach one last time, it’s about visiting friends and relatives, and mixing things up one last weekend as a way to say goodbye to summer. It’s the greatest American holiday of them all.

Well maybe not. But it is a nice excuse to get out of town for a three day weekend. Which is what I’ll be doing. But for the those of you stuck in town this weekend here are a couple of things to check out.

Friday

Saturday

  • Yuengling Night @ The Tally Ho9PM, cheap lager and you get to meet the Yuengling girls? Sounds like a winner to me!

Know of anything else cool happening this weekend? Share it in the comments section! Have a great weekend and I’ll see you Tuesday!

Friday & Saturday – July 24-25, 2009 – Christmas in July @ Starter's Riverport
Friday, July 24th, 2009

Is Christmas your favorite time of year? Is all this heat and humidity driving you a little bit crazy? Yeah, me too. I feel like the good people at Starter’s Riverport are also in the same boat. Which must be why their Christmas in July party couldn’t have come at a better time. Check out the flyer below for all the important info.

Christmas

Oooh, I wonder what the presents are? I’m guessing it’s free shots handed out by girls dressed as elves and, for the record, I’m ok with that. Start the holiday season off early with a trip to Starter’s Riverport this Friday and Saturday. Lets all just hope Santa has been slacking with the Naughty or Nice List so far this year.

Friday & Saturday – July 3-4, 2009 – 4th of July Weekend
Friday, July 3rd, 2009

I’m taking the weekend off. That’s right this is going to be my only post this weekend. It’s Independence Day this weekend, and we all know what that means…BBQ’s, beer, and fireworks! This truly is the most American holiday. So, before you go out this weekend go check out some local fireworks!

Allentown

  • 7/3/09 – Coca-cola Park following the IronPigs game.
  • 7/4/09 – J. Birney Crum Stadium – More info here.

Bethlehem

  • 7/4/09 – Sand Island Park – View from City Hall plaza and other downtown locations.

Friday & Saturday – June 5, 6 2009 – Pirate Palooza III at Looper's
Friday, June 5th, 2009

Looking for somewhere to go this weekend where you won’t get weird looks for dressing like a pirate? Look no further! Looper’s Grille and Bar has got you covered! Now in it’s third year, the Pirate Palooza makes it’s return to Looper’s Grille and Bar this weekend. They’re planning a whole weekend of activities over at Looper’s and it’s all for a good cause, “All proceeds from this event will go to Turning Point of the Lehigh Valley“.

$10 (or $15 for two people) gets you in to enjoy food and drink specials as well as music from Tropical Soul. There’s also going to be a silent auction, a Chinese raffle, and 50/50 raffle. Saturday night’s entertainment is Jimmy and The Parrots, which also starts at 7PM. Expecting a crowd of several hundred people, they’ve set up a huge pavilion at Looper’s to accommodate the stage as well as tables & chairs for everyone

So break out that Hawaiian shirt and get ready to swig some Landshark Lager as Natalie and the crew at Looper’s kick off summer, island style!

Sunday – May 24, 2009 – Summer Serve at Maingate
Thursday, May 21st, 2009

Uh oh, Cap Cee and his Audio Dynamikz crew are doing it again. All you lucky folks who have off this Monday [I don't know...I guess there's a holiday or something?] need to go and check out Summer Serve at The Maingate this Sunday night. Starting at 10PM, DJ Cap Cee and DJ Cyn take over the Maingate where it’s 18 to party and 21 to drink. So all you youngsters out there, go buy a case of Red Bull and put on your dancing shoes because Cap Cee is finally hosting an event you can attend. There’s a $10 cover for anyone 18-20 and $5 cover for everyone 21+. There’s no better way to enjoy Memorial Day than with a hangover, so don’t miss this event.
