Thursday – September 10, 2009 – Grand Opening @ The Firehouse Bethlehem
Thursday, September 10th, 2009

Yep, that’s right…you read that correctly. The Firehouse’s grand opening is happening this Thursday night tonight! The long awaited and often delayed opening for The Firehouse is finally going down! Rumors of a “soft opening” for The Firehouse have been floating through Bethlehem for some time now, and after patiently waiting all summer, we’re finally going to get a chance to see what The Firehouse is all about.

As you may remember, I was able to take a sneak peek tour of The Firehouse a couple of weeks ago. I was very impressed by what I saw…even though there was still some work to be done. If you haven’t already seen em…check out some pics I snapped of The Firehouse here.

If the goal was to bring our anticipation to a boil, then the owners of The Firehouse have played their cards just right. I, for one, have been eagerly looking forward to the Firehouse opening all summer long. But now, that time has come…in just a few short days hours all our waiting pays off. The grand opening celebration kicks off at 9PM with DJ Cap Cee on the 1′s and 2′s, spinning all the hits. The Facebook event page for the grand opening doesn’t give a whole lot of information, just briefly mentioning “lots of drink specials”. But really, do any of you need much of an excuse to come out to the opening night of the hottest new bar in town?? I know I don’t.

Friday – August 28, 2009 – Safe Bets
Friday, August 28th, 2009

Is there anything worse than rain on a Friday?? I submit to you that no, there is not. It’s kind of putting me in a bit of a funk here. But the good news is tonight is the start of the weekend and that’s enough to help get me through the day. As far as I can tell there isn’t a whole lot going on right now; no big parties, no special events, and no new bar openings yet (I’m looking at you, The Firehouse). But, on the bright side of things, college is back in session!! Which officially means large crowds at the bars neighboring our colleges and universities. I’m going to give you a round-up of some of the local colleges and what bars you can expect to be hot tonight.

Lehigh

  • The Tally Ho – The Ho has been a Lehigh haunt for years, just look at the decorations on the walls. Tonight you can expect a good crowd of Lehigh kids returning to what happens to be one of the closest bars to the campus.
  • MacGrady’s – MacGrady’s and the The Tally Ho, at least in my mind, go hand in hand. They’re both smoky college bars with average drink prices…I guess the difference is MacGrady’s tends to skew a little more ghetto.
  • Starter’s RiverportIf you’re looking for someplace smoke-free and a little classier than MacGrady’s and Tally Ho, check out Starter’s tonight. It’s the college bar that everyone can enjoy.

Moravian

  • Roosevelt’s 21stRoosevelt’s first opened towards the tail end of the past school year which makes me think that many Moravian students will be eager to check out the new bar on the Northside.
  • Machs Gute – Not really sure if Moravian kids go here to drink but it’s a cool bar on the North side, which leads me to believe that probably at least some will be there tonight.

Muhlenberg

  • Liberty St Tavern / Stooges / Callaghan’sWith Muhlenberg’s students moving in today I’m not sure if we’ll see any of them out the bars tonight. But if so, they’ll probably be at one or all three of these bars.

Lafayette

  • Mother’sThe diviest of dive bars, Lafayette students have been drinking cheap beer and tossing quoits inside Mother’s for what seems like (judging by the condition of the place) centuries.
  • Porter’s Pub – I’ll be straight up with everyone, I’ve never been to Porter’s and I have no idea if Lafayette students like to hang out here. But I’ve heard it’s cool and that their beer selection is phenomenal which is good enough for me.

Let’s all welcome back our college students and buy them a beer to say thank you for revitalizing our night life scene.

LV Sneak Peek – The Firehouse – Southside, Bethlehem
Tuesday, August 25th, 2009

Bethlehem’s bar scene has a lot going for it and has had a lot of big developments lately. Roosevelt’s 21st opened not too long ago and has been drawing large crowds to the North end of town. A couple of other projects are still in the works and, if you’ve been keeping your ear to the streets, you’ve probably heard the rumors about the next big development on the Southside. The Firehouse, located behind The Tally Ho on Broadway, has been inching it’s way closer and closer to opening for the past couple months. I’m happy to report that, although an opening has not yet been set, the project is bordering on being fully completed and should open in the near future.

I had the opportunity recently to take a sneak peek tour of The Firehouse and I’m very impressed. Although there was work still being done, the place looks awesome. They’ve done a great job keeping some of the historical elements of this ancient building and modernizing it for today’s crowd. The fireman’s pole is a particularly nice touch…but no, you can’t use it to go from one floor to another.

Now of course the question is…when will it open? I don’t have an exact date for you. I can tell you though that a grand opening is a little ways away but you can expect a soft opening soon. How soon? Well, if you go to their
official website there is information on how to join their VIP text service for updates on when to expect the soft opening. I’ll also be keeping everyone updated as soon as I know anything via the LV Scene Twitter and on the blog. So keep your ears pealed for the fire alarm because things are about to get hotter in South Bethlehem!

Friday – July 24, 2009 – MAXXIM Party @ The Maxx Regal
Friday, July 24th, 2009

Just when I thought I was done blogging for the day, I get sent a tip about a hot party taking place in Trexlertown. I know what you’re thinking…Trexlertown? I know. It sounds crazy, but don’t write it off yet. According to the Facebook page for the event, 100 people have already said they are going. Not bad, Trexlertown.

Friday & Saturday – July 24-25, 2009 – Christmas in July @ Starter's Riverport
Friday, July 24th, 2009

Is Christmas your favorite time of year? Is all this heat and humidity driving you a little bit crazy? Yeah, me too. I feel like the good people at Starter’s Riverport are also in the same boat. Which must be why their Christmas in July party couldn’t have come at a better time. Check out the flyer below for all the important info.

Christmas

Oooh, I wonder what the presents are? I’m guessing it’s free shots handed out by girls dressed as elves and, for the record, I’m ok with that. Start the holiday season off early with a trip to Starter’s Riverport this Friday and Saturday. Lets all just hope Santa has been slacking with the Naughty or Nice List so far this year.

Thursday – July 23, 2009 – Something for everyone
Thursday, July 23rd, 2009

I’m gonna go out on a limb and put this out there. No matter what you are into, you’ll be able to find something you like in my post today. With three completely different events tonight there’s got to be something that interests you.

Are you interested in meeting new people? Expanding your social horizons and trying something new? In that case, why not stop by this month’s Lehigh Valley Tweetup? It starts tonight at 6PM at the offices of Spark Media and is totally free. I’ve never been to Spark before, I can only assume that they have a built in executives bar which is why I’ll be bringing my resume. Any office that is cool enough to host a mixer, is an office I want to work at.

Are you into comedy? Laughing it up and having a good time? Well than check out the Associated Mess tonight at Pitchers in Allentown. The Lehigh Valley finally has it’s very own improv troupe and it’s about time too. It’s been how long since “Who’s Line Is It Anyway?” got popular? Not only does the Mess put on an awesome show but it’s filled with audience participation too. Show starts at 8PM and costs $8, once inside enjoy Pitchers great food and famous $5 domestic pitchers.

Or, are you looking to cut loose tonight? Start the weekend a little bit early? If so, you’ll want to head to Roosevelt’s 21st in Bethlehem where CapCee will be working the turntables all night long. CapCee doesn’t have a weekly gig at Roosevelt’s. So if you’re looking to see a pro like Cap in action at Roosevelt’s, tonight may be your only chance…ever! The party starts tonight at 10PM and doesn’t end until they turn the house lights on. $2 Labatt pints and $4 Red Bull & vodka pints should keep the crowd jumping.

So, like I said, lot of different stuff going on tonight. Hopefully something up there interests you. If not, let me know in the comments section below and I’ll see what else I can find…

Friday – July 10, 2009 – Let's try new things…
Friday, July 10th, 2009

Ok, I’ll be the first to admit there are some definite gaps in my bar going experiences. By that I mean, there are bars that I probably should have been to, but for some reason haven’t. I’m sure that’s how it is for a lot of people…once you’ve found a handful of bars in the area that you like, don’t you tend to go to those more often than not?

So my plan for tonight is to check out two bars tonight that I have never been too before. Hmm, but what will they be? Well, that’s where you come in! Drop me a suggestion for a bar I may have never been too before in the comment section below. I live in Bethlehem and tend to frequent the Southside bars there a lot so anything that may be a little bit off the beaten path would be right up my alley.

But your homework isn’t done yet! I challenge you to check out a bar you’ve never been to before. If you need some help, leave a comment below and I’ll do my best to help you out!

So, what are you waiting for? Where should I go tonight?

OMG!! PULSE is this Saturday!
Wednesday, June 24th, 2009

Way back in May, I told you to Mark Your Calendar’s for the biggest party of the summer, PULSE at Starter’s Riverport. Well, did you? If you did, you would know that PULSE is this Saturday!

DJ Cap Cee and his Audio Dynamikz crew have been patiently waiting since their last big party (GLOW 2) and it all pays off this weekend. Cap Cee is pulling out all the stops for this party, including dropping the cover charge. There will be 4 DJ’s playing nothing under 120 BPM’s on dance floors both downstairs and upstairs. Event sponsors Marani Vodka are also going a little crazy for the party. At PULSE buy one bottle of Marani Vodka and get a bottle of Nuvo Sparkling Liqueur FREE!

Pulse-Front

120 BPM’s + 4 DJ’s + 2 dancefloors + NO COVER…it all adds up to the hottest party of the summer. Break out those glow sticks and get ready to dance because this Saturday your PULSE is going to race!

Saturday – June 13, 2009 – Destroy & Rebuild Graffitti Expo
Saturday, June 13th, 2009

Get ready to break out your old Adidas track suit and your Nike high tops because tonight in Allentown DJ Cap Cee is sending things back to 1989. Starting at 7PM at Art & Soul Studios in Allentown, it’s the Destroy & Rebuild Graffiti Expo. Watch as artists Avone, 2esae, and Ski work their magic, we’re talking live graffitti artistry. Best of all, no need to run from the cops! And let’s not forget about Cap Cee working his considerable magic on the turntables, spinning nothing but the classics. To keep things loose, event sponsors Marani Vodka and Vegasfuel will be providing food and drinks.

So, if you’re looking for something to do tonight that’s completely different head to downtown Allentown for a truly unique experience.
