Wednesday – March 15, 2010 – St. Patrick’s Day
Monday, March 15th, 2010

Everyone’s favorite drinking holiday is back, and after this rainy weather we’ve been having I think we could all use a good night of drinking. Here’s some more good news for you; according to WFMZ, we’re looking at some nice weather for this Wednesday! I can definitely deal with some sun and temperatures in the 50′s for Wednesday night. Before we get into all the nitty gritty of SPD drinking festivities, let’s take a look at this classic viral video to get into the SPD spirit.

Ok, back on track. Let’s talk about where you’ll be going to get your Irish on. It’s ok if you’re not sure yet. Neither am I. Let’s figure this out together.

St. Patrick’s Day and Irish pubs go hand-in-hand. There’s a lot to choose from in the area and probably all of them will be packed. Hey, did you know LV Scene has a convenient list of many of the Irish pubs in our area? Check it out by clicking here or going to the “FIND IT HERE” drop down menu at the top of the page.

A blue collar holiday like St. Patrick’s Day means local neighborhood establishments will be as crowded as the Irish pubs are. My first choice for Wednesday would be any of the bars in the West End of Allentown. Liberty St. Tavern, Callaghan’s, and Stooge’s should all have really good crowds. And by “really good crowds” I, of course, mean really drunk crowds.

But if you’re looking for a bigger party, probably all of the major bars in the area will be throwing something. Here’s some info about a few.

The FirehouseBethlehemGreen Bash – No cover, wear the color green and get a free shot! Featuring, Coors Light girls & Kiliian’s Girls, LEECHBOY from 6-10PM on guitar, DJ What & DJ Cyn form 10pm – 2am. $1.50-green Coors Light drafts, $3 Jameson shots, $5 car bombs.

Starter’s RiverportBethlehemThe Green Party – 20+, no cover, Cap Cee in the mix. $5 car bombs, $2 Dirty Girl Scouts, $3 Bud Light, $2.50 Coors Light.

There you have it, my take on St. Patrick’s Day in the Lehigh Valley. What are your thoughts? Where do you plan on being this Wednesday?

Mardi Gras Party Roundup
Monday, January 11th, 2010

I hope you all are sufficiently recovered from New Year’s Eve because it’s time to start thinking about the next big holiday in our party year. All you Catholics out there probably know the origin of Mardi Gras so allow me to enlighten those of you who don’t . Mardi Gras, or Fat Tuesday, takes place the day before Lent begins on Ash Wednesday. Traditionally viewed as a final night of debauchery before setting aside such things for Lent, to most of us these days its become just another excuse to get out and party.

So far several bars in our area have already announced big party plans, but you can expect more to come as we get closer to Mardi Gras. Check back often for any updates I may add to this post.

Thursday – December 31, 2009 – New Year’s Eve 2009
Tuesday, December 22nd, 2009

It wouldn’t be a holiday in the Valley if our locals bars and clubs weren’t trying to cash in on it by throwing a huge themed party. The next holiday to get this treatment is New Year’s Eve. It helps that New Year’s Eve isn’t really that much of a holiday to begin with…More of a lazy excuse to get drunk, kiss random people at midnight, and start the new year off with a hangover.

Saturday – December 19, 2009 – Naughty or Nice 4 @ Starter’s Riverport
Sunday, December 6th, 2009

It’s barely December and traditional logic may imply that it’s a little too soon to start thinking about Christmas parties, but for the people at Starter’s Riverport it’s never too soon to start thinking about throwing a big party. On Saturday, December 19 DJ Cap Cee is taking over Starter’s Riverport with Naughty or Nice 4.

The party runs from 10PM-2AM and features DJ Cap Cee on the turntables. Enjoy $2 candy cane shots, $5 Ciroc cocktails, and $2.50 Coors Light bottles. No word on whether or not you need to dress up like a naughty Christmas elf to attend, but we have people working on it and we’ll let you know if we find anything out.

Saturday – December 5, 2009 – Anniversary of the Ratification of the 21st Ammendment @ Roosevelt’s 21st
Monday, November 23rd, 2009

It’s hard to believe that a mere 76 years ago it was a crime to throw a back a beer. The 18th Amendment to the Constitution banned “the sale, manufacture, and transportation of alcohol for consumption.” During this time speakeasies, like the Bookstore in Bethlehem, sprung up all over our country, numbering in the ten thousands and allowing alcohol loving people to get their drink on. But, Champion of the Drunks, President Franklin Roosevelt repealed that law with the 21st Amendment.

To celebrate the 76th Anniversary of the Ratification of 21st Amendment, the people at Roosevelt’s 21st are offering $.21 drafts all day! Not sure what drafts that will deal will apply for (I’m guessing whatever is cheapest), but still…a draft for less than a quarter! Keeping things lively will be DJ Dangerous Dan, he’ll be on the turntables from 10PM-2AM.

Friday – November 20, 2009 – Maxxim Event: Happy Lehigh Valley
Thursday, November 12th, 2009

The people over at Maxxim Event aren’t ones for the ordinary, they’re interested in mixing things up and trying something new. Which is exactly what they are doing on Friday, November 20 with their Happy Lehigh Valley event. Take a look at an excerpt of an email I was sent that nicely sums up where they are coming from…

“…the Valley has been rather saturated with new club openings, events, and the like, but its missing a key, people. Yes, we have alot of people who frequent the nightlife, but there is a lack of variety. Undoubtedly your have seen this first hand. The same people at the same bars, its like an the same dance just with different partners.

That idea is what got me thinking about something different. I’m at Penn State now finishing up school and an opportunity to have an event was presented to me. In talking I believe that having an event that targets two entirely different markets would add some jazz to the regularity. Its called Happy Lehigh Valley: A Maxxim Event. We are having (to start) 2 36 passenger party buses leaving the LV and bringing you to Penn State for a night of partying. All attendees will be of course be VIP’s in town with shuttle service between bars, etc.”

I’m sold…talk about shaking things up!

More information about the event can be found at the Facebook event page, including information about how to register and more details about the VIP service they have planned for everyone.

Thursday – November 5, 2009 – Black & White Thursdays @ Roosevelt’s 21st
Thursday, October 29th, 2009

DJ Cyn and the people at Roosevelt’s 21st in Bethlehem are switching things up a little bit and updating their weekly Thursday night party. Starting Thursday November 5, Roosevelt’s will be hosting a weekly Black & White party featuring a Little Black Dress contest.

The Facebook event page doesn’t give any details on how the contest will be run. I guess theoretically the contest could be run like a classy version of a wet t-shirt contest with the winner being chosen by whoever the crowd drunkenly shouts the loudest for, but I doubt that’s how they’ll be doing it. Regardless, you ladies out there will want to send that dress to the cleaners because every night one lucky lady will be chosen to receive a $100 gift certificate to, where else, Roosevelt’s 21st.

While you’re there enjoy $1.99 Labatt Blue pints and $4 Rhino & vodka pints. Btw, anyone out there have any idea what Rhino is? There’s no cover charge, so that leaves you no reason not to go.

Saturday – October 17, 2009 – Little Black Dress Party @ 40 Below
Saturday, October 17th, 2009

Looking for a high energy party for after the Lehigh Valley Brewfest this afternoon?? Look no further. 40 Below in Bethlehem has got you covered…but you better hope your little black dress isn’t at the cleaners.

The Little Black Dress Party starts tonight at 10PM and runs until they turn on the house lights. For all you youngsters out there looking to join in on the action, you’re in luck. Tonight’s event is 18 to party, 21 to drink. There’s no cover for anyone over 21 or anyone 18-20 who arrives before midnight. Also, anyone 21 and over gets a free drink pass if you show before it becomes Sunday. Drink specials tonight are as follows $2 Miller Lite Bottles, $3 Mixed Well Drinks, and a $4 Martini of the Night.

According to the Facebook event page, Starter’s Riveport is closed to the public tonight for a private function. If that’s true, it could mean big crowds at 40 Below. I feel obligated to point out there is no mention of this on the Starter’s Riverport Facebook page. So either this is some new clever/shady marketing tactic or Starter’s is actually hosting a private function.

So if girls are supposed to wear their little black dresses, what are guys supposed to wear? Little black tuxedo? Little black blazer? Little black man thong? Ewww. Too far.

Friday – September 18, 2009 – Southside Options
Friday, September 18th, 2009

The grand opening may be over at The Firehouse, but that’s just the beginning. Bethlehem’s newest “hot spot” (Get it? Hot spot?) is going to busy all weekend long. People who missed the grand opening party will be coming to the Southside to check out what all the buzz is about. You can expect big crowds and hot dance floors throughout the weekend. DJ $weetlife takes over tonight with Fahrenheit Fridays, an event you can expect every Friday night.

Looking for something other than The Firehouse? Something brand new and never before seen in the Lehigh Valley? Head on over to Starter’s Riverport for a night with DJ/VJ Roonie G. Clubworld named Roonie G the best VJ in 2008, you’ll want to be there as he takes over Starter’s 72 screens. Check out his website for a better look at what he does. Roonie gets started at 10PM, must be 21+ to attend.

And throughout the weekend if you’re jonesing for an awesome gyro or some baklava, head on down the St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Fall Food Festival in Bethlehem. Their Facebook event page has a full schedule of events, click here to check it out.

Friday – September 11, 2009 – Will they or won't they…
Friday, September 11th, 2009

Right now, I’m in the same boat as all of you. I really want to know whether or not The Firehouse is going to open or if I should make other plans. If it’s opening tonight, I’m there. If it’s not opening, I’ve got to find something else to do.

Fortunately, the good people at Starter’s Riverport have got us all covered. The return of the Lehigh Valley’s college students, marks the return of the I LOVE COLLEGE party. Channel your inner frat boy and come on out to the Riverport tonight to enjoy $5 Coor’s Light 40′s and $2 Walk O’ Shame shots. No word on whether or not there will be beer pong or flip cup tonight, but better bring some ping-pong balls and Solo cups to be safe.

Stick with LV Scene and the LV Scene Twitter page for any information regarding the opening of The Firehouse. As soon as I know about it, you’ll know about it.

UPDATE: According to DJ Cap Cee, The Firehouse will not be opening tonight. It’ll hopefully be opening sometime next week, but at this point we’ll just have to wait and see. Keep LV Scene in your web browsers this weekend for any last minute happenings with The Firehouse or any of our other local bars. And hey, while you’re at your computer, why not add us as your home page.

Still looking for something to do tonight? Go check out Cap Cee at 40 Below in Bethlehem, where you can grab $3 Corona’s and a bunch of other awesome specials!
