Friday – January 29, 2009 – 3rd Annual Snow Ball @ Drinky’s
Thursday, January 28th, 2010

I guess it’s fitting that as I write this fresh snow is falling from the sky. If that snow continues until Friday night it will be even more appropriate. This Friday night is the 3rd Annual Snow Ball at Drinky’s in Easton. I stumbled upon this event on Facebook and after reading the event page for it, I’m left feeling a bit underwhelmed. $4 Red Bull & vodkas and $.99 Miller Lites? Decent specials, but nothing winter or snow themed? How about 1/2 price Sam Adams Winter Lagers? Or $4 dollar Winter Wonderland martinis? DJ Dangerous Dan and Scotty Brilliant will be handling the entertainment for the night, but the event page doesn’t mention anything else related to the Snow Ball theme.

I’m not trying to talk smack on this party, but if you’re going to throw a themed party go all out with it! But maybe I’m wrong. Maybe there will be more winter themed stuff happening inside that they decided not to mention on the Facebook invite. Anyone been to one of the themed events at Drinky’s before? What can someone expect who is attending the Snow Ball tomorrow night?

Friday – November 13, 2009 – Black Out Party @ Drinky’s
Friday, November 13th, 2009

blackoutEver have so much to drink that when you wake up the next morning there are portions of your night that you don’t even remember? Yeah, I think that’s what the people at Drinky’s are going for tonight.

Tonight at Drinky’s in Easton is the Black Out Party hosted 107.1 The Bone’s Scotty Brilliant & DJ Dangerous Dan. Enjoy $4 Red Bull and vodka’s and $.99 Miller Lite drafts. Head on over to the Facebook event page for the event if you need more information, otherwise we’ll see you at Drinky’s tonight.

Saturday – October 17, 2009 – Lehigh Valley Brewfest
Thursday, October 15th, 2009

Let’s face it, the forecast for Saturday sucks and the bad weather could not come at a worse time. It’s one thing to have rain throughout the week, but rain on a weekend? Get serious. And of course it had to come this weekend. The weekend that Valley beer enthusiasts have been waiting for all month. The Lehigh Valley Brewfest takes place this weekend at Hugh Moore Park in Easton. Though the weather is going to be awful, Brewfest organizers have got everything under control. According to the Brewfest website, the Festival will be taking place “rain/snow or shine in enclosed tents”. Beer lovers, feel free to breathe a sigh of relief.

Tickets are required for the fest and can be ordered online or purchased the day of the event. Advance general admission tickets cost $30 or $35 at the door, or for those of you with extra money to throw around you can attend the connoisseur tasting for $75. A ticket purchase also includes a Lehigh Valley Brewfest souvenir mug that can be used at the Fest for tasting purposes. The general admission tasting takes place from 2-6PM. Admission gets you unlimited tastings from Allentown/Bethlehem Brew Works, Flying Fish, Harpoon Brewery, Stoudts, Tröegs, Weyerbacher, Boston Beer Company, Dogfish Head, Victory, Yards and many more!

Beer nuts, don’t let the weather keep you inside this weekend! The Lehigh Valley Brewfest only happens once a year, weather should not factor into your decision to go. Head on down to Hugh Moore Park and sample some of the best local and regional brews in the country!

Thursday – October 7, 2009 – LV Tweetup @ Pearly Bakers
Wednesday, October 7th, 2009

Still not Twittering? At this point, you have two options…you can sign up for Twitter and attend tonight’s Tweetup at Pearly Baker’s Alehouse in Easton, or you can just skip reading this post. Not trying to sound like a jerk here, but if you’re not on Twitter chances are you’re not going to want to come to the Tweetup tonight. It’s that simple.

TweetupBut, for those of you who are on Twitter, make sure you do everything in your power to make it over to the Tweetup tonight. The Tweetup starts at 7PM and Pearly Baker’s is offering $2 drafts for the occasion. Pearly Baker’s features live music every Thursday night, tomorrow night’s will be performed by Doug Mackie and starts at 9PM.

More information about the Tweetup can be found here. Big thanks to Christopher Elston Phtography for letting me steal his pic from the last Tweetup, go here to check out more of his work, or just click the pic!

Friday – October 2, 2009 – Three Course Friday
Friday, October 2nd, 2009

It’s Friday and, I don’t know about you, but my week has been long. In honor of the weekend I’m making things easy for you tonight. I’ve got three ideas for you; a three course meal of Lehigh Valley entertainment. Like any good three course meal, I’ve got an appetizer, a main course, and some dessert.

First let’s start things off tonight with dinner and drinks on Bethlehem’s Southside, it’s First Friday tonight. There are a number of awesome restaurants downtown, so take your pick! Try the chicken marsala and a glass of red wine at Sal’s Brick Oven Pizza. Or the Sea Bass tacos and the Happy Hollydays martini at Looper’s Grille and Bar. Or a burger and beer at J.P. MacGrady’s. All of them sound pretty good to me, it might just depend on what I’m in the mood for tonight. What about you? What sounds good to you?

Moving on to our second course…The Associated Mess, the Lehigh Valley’s premier improv troupe, is performing a show at the Touchstone Theater tonight at 8PM. Improv comedy is something that needs to be seen live to fully appreciate it. The Mess has been putting on hilarious shows on a regular basis now for months. Full details, including this week’s cast, can be found on the Facebook event page. If you haven’t seen them yet, what are you waiting for? Doors open at 7:30, so you better make that dinner reservation early.

What three course meal would be complete without dessert? Our dessert tonight is drinks (and maybe some shots) over at Drinky’s in Easton. They’re having their WTF? Friday party, which is hosted by DJ Dangerous Dan and 107.1 The Bone’s Scotty Brilliant. Come on out in the craziest outfit you can find and enjoy $.99 Miller Lite drafts, $4 Red Bull & vodkas, and for tonight any draft between 10-12 is only $2. There are prizes for the craziest outfit, so go big or go home.

So there you have it, your night in a nutshell. Didn’t I make that easy for you?

Friday – May 29, 2009 – Safe Bets
Friday, May 29th, 2009

OK, so don’t hate me…but I’m not going out tonight. It’s a good friend of mines birthday today and I’m actually throwing a party at my house to celebrate. House parties are a lot of fun and it’s been some time since I’ve thrown one…Christmas to be exact. But don’t fret, I’m not going to leave you hanging. I’ve got a couple of Safe Bets for you tonight, old favorites that always draw a crowd and newcomers that are pretty hot right now.

Allentown

  • LegendsIf you’ve been reading LV Scene for the past couple of months, you probably know my opinion of Legends…if not here’s the short version. It’s overly crowded, the service is slow, and the odds are pretty good that you’ll witness either a bar fight or a bar skank doing a body shot on the bar. But hey, if you can put up with that, chances are you’ll have a good time.

Bethlehem

  • Bethlehem BrewworksLooking for great micro-brews and mixed drinks in an upscale, yet comfortable atmosphere? If you haven’t already been there, make a point to check out Bethlehem Brewworks and their Steelgaarden Lounge. The Brewworks is a well established bar/restaurant that does very well on weekends and cosistently draws a good crowd. Reasonable prices and cool atmosphere? Sounds good to me.
  • Roosevelt’s 21stThe new kid on the block. Roosevelt’s has been drawing a pretty solid crowd since it opened. Though, to be fair, every time I’ve been there Moravian has been in session. Not sure what it’s like now that the majority of Moravian’s students have left for the summer. Nightly food and drink specials and a happy hour for the rest of us (10PM-12AM, most nights) will keep people coming to this new addition to Bethlehem’s night-life.

Easton

  • Mother’sPretty much the epitome of a dive bar, but isn’t that what keeps everyone coming back to Mother’s? No frills, just cheap beer and a fun crowd. Oh, and you can play quoits inside the bar.
  • Drinky’sLooking for something a little bit more swanky than Mother’s? Check out Drinky’s, which is right around the corner. Tonight they are offering $1.99 bottles and well drinks…who says swanky has to cost a lot?

I hope everyone can forgive me for abandoning my post tonight…you understand, right? It’s for a good cause. Soooo, you guys….like….stuff? All right, I’m gonna go now….I can tell this is getting awkward.

Friday – March 20, 2009
Thursday, March 19th, 2009

Well, all good things must come to an end and SPD in the Lehigh Valley is no exception. But let’s not let that get us down- there’s still a lot going on in the LV.

Downtown Easton has a lot going for it. Despite the bad reputation, Easton’s Centre Circle is home to numerous restaurants, bars, and clubs. Many of the trendy establishments would not be out of place in cities far larger than Easton.

Drinky’s is just such an establishment. Formerly a dive bar, the new Drinky’s is a ”casually elegant lounge and tapas bar that transforms into the premiere Lehigh Valley hot-spot after the sun goes down!” Big thanks to whoever wrote that on the Drinky’s website for making my job that much easier. Tomorrow is Super Hot Fridays and features $3 Long Island iced teas, $2 Coors Light and 2…count em…2 DJ’s.

But if that’s not exactly what you are looking for, just a short walk away Pearly Baker’s will have live music from Alex Radus. If you’ve never been to Pearly Baker’s, I highly recommend you check it out. They’ve got a really great atmosphere, an excellent beer selection, and some of the best martinis in town.

But sometimes, if you’re like me, don’t you just wanna get a beer at a no-frills dive bar? Mothers Bar & Grill could be exactly what you are looking for. Cheap beer, a loud jukebox, and a Quoits set keep things lively. Do your best to avoid the bathrooms at Mother’s though, you may not make it out alive.
