Bethlehem can now call itself the proud host city of two hookah lounges; Essence on the Southside and now Hookah Turka on the Northside. I’m not even going to bother explaining what a hookah lounge is. If you don’t know by now, this weekend’s event probably isn’t for you.

Hookah Turka is having a two night grand opening event this weekend that is sure to be the talk of the town. There’s a $5 cover charge and you can expect a DJ and live belly dancing. For all the details, head to either the Facebook event page or their website.

Fireman’s Exam Trivia is on hiatus this week but I’m not one to leave you bored on a Wednesday night. New to the weekly Wednesday night scene is an open mic night at Rock N’ Joe’s Coffee Lounge in Bethlehem…for a full review of Rock N’ Joe’s, check out this post by The El Vee.

Let me tell you what I know about the Blue Bash tonight at Roosevelt’s in Bethlehem.

It exists
It is “blue” themed
It may or may not be associated with Blue Moon beer.

That’s it, and not for lack of trying either. The Blue Bash Facebook page could not have any less information and requests for more information have gone unanswered.

I’m struggling to find reasons to continue writing about this event. I keep coming back to the question, “If they’re not going to put out any information about this, why should I?”. Anyway, there you have it. Blue Bash. Tonight.

Friday, Saturday, Sunday – February 5-7, 2010 – The Weekend of the Snowpocalypse

In case you haven’t heard there’s a huge storm coming our way. It’s expected to drop anywhere from 4-8 inches of snow on the Valley (even more in the southern parts of our region) and make for some interesting travel conditions on the weekend of the Super Bowl. There’s a lot going this weekend, so I’m gonna keep things brief and do a quick roundup of all the various events.

Friday – February 5

Fahrenheit Friday @ The Firehouse – Featuring DJ Diamondkutz from Power 99 - NO COVER if you get in before 10pm, $2 Kamikaze shots, $2 Miller Lite bottles, $2 Coors Light bottles, and $5 $weetlife Swizzles.

Fist Pumpin First Friday @ Starter’s Riverport – DJ CyN will be spinning all high energy dance music…nothing under 120 bpm.

The Super Bowl may be a couple of weeks away but don’t let that get you down. ArtsQuest, the people behind Bethlehem’s Musikfest, have organized well over two dozen local restaurants for the 2010 Souper Bowl. You won’t find Peyton Manning or Drew Brees at this Souper Bowl but that doesn’t mean you won’t find something worth cheering for. Particpants include Bethlehem Brew Works, Black Forest Deli & Catering, Looper’s Grille & Bar, Yianni’s Taverna, and many more! For a full look at the lineup, click here. Friday – January 22, 2010 – “Back 2 Skool” Featuring DJ Skribble @ Starter’s Riverport

I don’t know much about DJs. Aside from local DJs, the only DJs I know anything about are Danger Mouse, Tiesto and Mix Master Mike. But I have heard of DJ Skribble before so I thought this event might be something worth writing about.

That being said, DJ Skribble is coming to Starter’s Riverport tonight and taking us “Back 2 Skool”. Your guess is as good as mine why this event is called “Back 2 Skool” or why Skribble thinks we need to go back there. He does know he’s technically spelling his name wrong, right?

What kind of school would it be if there wasn’t a tuition. Tonight there’s a cover charge of $3 with a college ID or $7 for those of us done with school. Sorry. Scratch that. I meant to say done with “skool”. While keeping it old skool enjoy $2.50 Miller Lite, $5 Ciroc cocktails, $4 Azunia tequila. All kidding aside, this could end up being a really cool event from a DJ who’s been in the business for over 30 years.

Saturday – December 19, 2009 – Santa Bar Crawl through Bethlehem

Ahhh, it’s that time of year again. The leaves have fallen off the trees, temperatures are dropping, and people are spending all of their hard earned money on others instead of themselves. Yes, Christmas is upon us and nothing says Christmas like a drunken bar crawl through the Christmas City.

This Saturday night at 7PM is the Santa Bar Crawl which makes it’s way through Bethlehem in a full-size forty passenger bus and stops at Roosevelt’s 21st, Looper’s, MacGrady’s, Starter’s Riverport, The Firehouse, and Sotto Santi’s. Each bar will be offering drink specials to bar crawl participants…check out those specials here.

The bar crawl is a costumed event and participants are encouraged to dress up as Santa, Mrs. Clause, Frosty, or a Christmas Elf. There will be prizes for the best costume. $20 gets you in on the action and a spot on the bus. There’s no information on the Facebook event page about where to meet up but it does say more details are forthcoming. I’ve got an email in with the organizers, if they get back to me I’ll make sure to pass it along.

UPDATE: The bar crawl will be leaving from Roosevelt’s 21st at 7PM. After the crawl is over the bus will bring everyone back to Roosevelt’s at the end of the night. Seats are now first come, first serve…so if you want in on the bar crawl just show up at Roosevelt’s tomorrow night.

Saturday – December 19, 2009 – Naughty or Nice 4 @ Starter’s Riverport

It’s barely December and traditional logic may imply that it’s a little too soon to start thinking about Christmas parties, but for the people at Starter’s Riverport it’s never too soon to start thinking about throwing a big party. On Saturday, December 19 DJ Cap Cee is taking over Starter’s Riverport with Naughty or Nice 4.

The party runs from 10PM-2AM and features DJ Cap Cee on the turntables. Enjoy $2 candy cane shots, $5 Ciroc cocktails, and $2.50 Coors Light bottles. No word on whether or not you need to dress up like a naughty Christmas elf to attend, but we have people working on it and we’ll let you know if we find anything out.

Bethlehem’s monthly First Friday celebration is tomorrow night which means all your favorite Southside restaurants, bars, and shops will have lots to eat, drink, and do. Tomorrow night why not check out EuroYogurt. It’s a new yogurt shop just down the block from MacGrady’s. I hear it’s great, but if you don’t believe me why not check out The El Vee’s review of it.

In it he writes, “Not only is the yogurt absolutely delicious, but with toppings like fresh blueberries, raspberries, kiwi, pomegranate, strawberries, etc., it is one of the most delicious and affordable snacks around”.

After that yogurt head on over to the Firehouse for Le Salon d’ Arts presented by Valley Social magazine featuring work from Baltimore artist Larry Stevens. Proceeds from the event benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Have a great weekend everyone!

Saturday – November 28, 2009 – Burger Eat Off @ Black Forest Deli

Prepare yourself for an epic eating match up not scene since Joey Chestnut dethroned Kobayashi at the 2008 Coney Island Hot Dog Eating Contest. Saturday at 12:30PM is the the Black Forest Deli Burger Eat Off. This isn’t Man V. Food here. This is gritty, raw, in your face eating action from two local Twitter celebs. @cwluc is taking on @gwackr for Lehigh Valley competitive eating dominance.

I believe this is eating contest is a first for all parties involved. To my knowledge @cwluc, @gwackr, and @blackforestdeli have never participated/hosted a competitive eating contest. By that reasoning alone, Saturday’s event is something worth checking out.

At this point I’d like to point out that the Black Forest Deli has an awesome menu of non-competitive eating items. Every time I’ve been there I’ve tried something new and walked away with a new favorite sandwich. For my full thoughts on the BFD, go here.
