Tuesday – October 6, 2009 – College Night @ The Firehouse
Tuesday, October 6th, 2009

Now that our local colleges are back in full swing, it’s time that we all start taking advantage of the “college night” specials that are out there. The newest bar to announce a college night is The Firehouse in Bethlehem. I haven’t had a chance to check college night at The Firehouse out yet, so tonight looks like a good night to do so.

firehouse 2Way back in 2006 when I was in college, money was tight for me and all of my college student friends…as I’m sure it is for all college students today. The people over at The Firehouse have realized this and have appropriately priced their drinks for the night. Is there any better way to draw in poor college students than to charge $.50 for a draft and $2 for a pitcher?? (For the record, no, there is not). And on the turntables, DJ Synystr will be keeping things going all night long.

If you work on weekends and haven’t been able to make it out to The Firehouse since it opened, tonight is your night to check it out. What more reason do you need then $.50 beer?

Saturday – September 19, 2009 – Go Go Gadjet @ The PigPen
Saturday, September 19th, 2009

I don’t know how you feel about bar cover bands, but I’ll be the first to admit I haven’t always been a huge fan. They all seem to play the same old 80′s songs and when they’re playing it’s usually ridiculously loud which makes it impossible to talk to your friends.

But there is one cover band that I make an exception for, Go Go Gadjet. Don’t judge them by the spelling of their name, they’re actually a really entertaining band. They put on an awesome show and play songs I’ve never heard by a cover band before. The show gets underway at 10PM tonight at the PigPen in Allentown, do yourself a favor and check them out. They will change your opinion about cover bands.

Wednesday – August 19, 2009 – Witty Wednesday & Steel Trap Trivia at BBW
Wednesday, August 19th, 2009

There’s no escaping it. We Lehigh Valleyians love trivia night at the local bars. And with good reason. It’s a great excuse to get out and socialize and most bars offer great drink and food specials. We all have our favorites too. My personal favorite at the moment is trivia night at Starter’s Riverport. But one that I’ve been hearing a lot about lately is Steel Trap Trivia at the Bethlehem BrewWorks. Registration starts at 8:30PM and the game starts at 9PM. Local comedians Steve Bost and Kate Hayes host the trivia night and according to friends of mine are some of the best trivia hosts in the area. There’s no cover charge and the BrewWorks awesome Steelgaarden Wit can be had for the low, low price of $2!

Tuesday – August 18, 2009 – Tickle Me Tuesday @ ABW
Tuesday, August 18th, 2009

Tonight, starting at 8PM, it’s Tickle Me Tuesdays at the Allentown BrewWorks. Come check out headliner Chris Johnston and 5 local comedians as they do their best to make you laugh. Trust me…I’ve been to TMT before and it’s an awesome time. Last time I went, the headliner was hilarious and the local comedians were way better than I was expecting. There’s a $5 cover charge and two drink minimum, but that’s pretty much standard at any comedy show. Click here or here for a full write up on headliner Chris Johnston.

Tuesday – August 4, 2009 – Trivia at The PigPen
Tuesday, August 4th, 2009

A new hat bas been thrown into the Tuesday Night Trivia ring. The PigPen Sports Bar & Grille is now hosting their own trivia night every Tuesday starting at 9:30PM. And what trivia night would be complete without an awesome food special? Tonight at the PigPen they’re offering all you can eat wings for $9.99. I’ve never eaten or done trivia at the PigPen before so I’m pretty psyched about checking out the PigPen for something other than just grabbing some drinks on a Friday or Saturday night.

For those of you who are a little Musikfest-ed out and looking for something else to do tonight…come on over to the PigPen tonight and put that brain of yours to use.

Saturday – July 25, 2009 – Celtic Music Night @ Callaghan's Ale House
Friday, July 24th, 2009

The Lehigh Valley’s CelticFest has one of the most rabid fan bases in the country. Which is why when the Fest took a hit last year that fan base turned into an avid group of volunteers looking to do anything they could to keep CelticFest alive. They’ve been running fund raisers all year long in order to cover costs for the annual summertime fest. Which is exactly what’s happening tonight…a fund raiser intended to get people excited for the upcoming festival.

Tonight, starting at 7:45PM at Jack Callaghan’s Ale House in Allentown, is the Summer Music Night featuring Celtic band, Maggie Drennon. The $10 cover charge gets you two free beers, either O’Hara’s Red or Coors Light, and goes to benefit the festival! Members of the Allentown Hibernians Hurling Club are going to be on hand to help out behind the bar, all tips to the Hibernians will also benefit the Fest. Dress code according to CelticFest organizers…”If you’ve got a kilt – WEAR IT!”

Thursday – July 23, 2009 – Something for everyone
Thursday, July 23rd, 2009

I’m gonna go out on a limb and put this out there. No matter what you are into, you’ll be able to find something you like in my post today. With three completely different events tonight there’s got to be something that interests you.

Are you interested in meeting new people? Expanding your social horizons and trying something new? In that case, why not stop by this month’s Lehigh Valley Tweetup? It starts tonight at 6PM at the offices of Spark Media and is totally free. I’ve never been to Spark before, I can only assume that they have a built in executives bar which is why I’ll be bringing my resume. Any office that is cool enough to host a mixer, is an office I want to work at.

Are you into comedy? Laughing it up and having a good time? Well than check out the Associated Mess tonight at Pitchers in Allentown. The Lehigh Valley finally has it’s very own improv troupe and it’s about time too. It’s been how long since “Who’s Line Is It Anyway?” got popular? Not only does the Mess put on an awesome show but it’s filled with audience participation too. Show starts at 8PM and costs $8, once inside enjoy Pitchers great food and famous $5 domestic pitchers.

Or, are you looking to cut loose tonight? Start the weekend a little bit early? If so, you’ll want to head to Roosevelt’s 21st in Bethlehem where CapCee will be working the turntables all night long. CapCee doesn’t have a weekly gig at Roosevelt’s. So if you’re looking to see a pro like Cap in action at Roosevelt’s, tonight may be your only chance…ever! The party starts tonight at 10PM and doesn’t end until they turn the house lights on. $2 Labatt pints and $4 Red Bull & vodka pints should keep the crowd jumping.

So, like I said, lot of different stuff going on tonight. Hopefully something up there interests you. If not, let me know in the comments section below and I’ll see what else I can find…

Thursday – July 16, 2009 – Lights Out Party at Pitchers
Thursday, July 16th, 2009

Guys, I’ve proved it. Twitter isn’t just for celebrities and wanna-bes with too much time on their hands. It’s also for letting nightlife blogs (say…the LV Scene for example) know when there is a cool party going down. Which is exactly what Twitter user ONDREYAH has done.

Tonight at Pitchers in Allentown is the first annual Lights Out Party. The party runs from 9PM-2AM, which is perfect for you night owls looking to start the weekend off early. There’s a $5 cover to get in to enjoy Pitchers famous $5 domestic pitcher, $2 shots, and $5 Red Bull & vodka. For everyone out there looking to drop a huge chunk of money on a Thursday night, there’s $176 VIP bottles of, presumably, champagne(?). Lights go out at 10PM with a giveaway of “free glow shit”. You see? Twitter can be useful!

Friday & Saturday – July 3-4, 2009 – 4th of July Weekend
Friday, July 3rd, 2009

I’m taking the weekend off. That’s right this is going to be my only post this weekend. It’s Independence Day this weekend, and we all know what that means…BBQ’s, beer, and fireworks! This truly is the most American holiday. So, before you go out this weekend go check out some local fireworks!

Allentown

  • 7/3/09 – Coca-cola Park following the IronPigs game.
  • 7/4/09 – J. Birney Crum Stadium – More info here.

Bethlehem

  • 7/4/09 – Sand Island Park – View from City Hall plaza and other downtown locations.

For a full listing of fireworks displays in our area, click here…or head to WFMZ.com

Hope you all have an awesome weekend, I’ll be back on Monday with a Weekend Recap post up so we can all talk about the holiday/fireworks related injuries and fatalities from the weekend!

Friday & Saturday – June 19-20, 2009 – Safe Bets
Friday, June 19th, 2009

Like I said yesterday, there’s not a lot going on this weekend. Bad weather and summer vacations are making for a slow nightlife scene in the Lehigh Valley. For today’s post I’m going to give you my Safe Bets, these are spots where there is always a good crowd. Whether new kids on the block or old favorites, check out these bars for a good time.

Bethlehem

  • Tally Ho / McGrady’s – I’m lumping these two bars together because whenever I go to one, I always inevitably end up at the other as well. Great drink specials and a fun crowd make these two bars an easy choice for a Friday night. Tally Ho and McGrady’s are both still smoking friendly so if you’re a smoker you were probably already coming here anyway.
  • Sands Bethlehem – Several weeks after opening, The Sands Casino is still drawing huge crowds. Whether you like to play the slots or not, chances are you’ll find something to do at the Sands. The St James Gate is an Irish pub  just off the casino floor, I’ve heard good things about the food there but haven’t had the chance to check it out yet. And let’s not forget about Emeril’s Chophouse…though if you don’t already have a reservation you probably won’t get to eat there this weekend. With great restaurants, several lounges to choose from, and live entertainment the Sands has everything to keep you entertained if slot gaming isn’t your thing.

Allentown

  • The PigPen – The Pen isn’t as hot as it used to be, but they’re still drawing steady crowd. Despite the $6 cover there should still be a good turnout tonight.
  • West End Bars – Who needs a holiday to throw a pub crawl? Swing by Allentown’s West End and have your own! Check out The Liberty St Tavern, Stooges, Callahan’s, and Volpe’s… they’re all in the same vicinity and make for a great pub crawl.

You see? Just because everyone is out of town but you doesn’t mean that you can’t have a good time this weekend!
