March 13, 2009 – The Friday Before St Patrick's Day

As I’m sure you are aware of, St Patrick’s Day is next Tuesday, March 17th. Here in the Lehigh Valley that is as good a reason as any to go out. The general consensus seems to be everyone parties the Friday before St Patrick’s Day actually occurs. If you’re like me, you don’t really need a whole lot of reason to go out on a Friday night…St Patrick’s Day will do nicely.

In the spirit of the holiday season, I’ve been making some calls to local bars trying to figure out what they are planning for tomorrow night. If you’re looking for a huge crowd, I think your best bet is going to be either J.P. MacGrady’s in Bethlehem or J.P. O’Malley’s in Allentown. According to the employee I spoke with, they are expecting several pub crawls to roll through and a massive turnout all night long. Because of the expected turnout, they aren’t planning to do a whole lot special for SPD. But, as usual, there will be cheap beer, Irish food, and wall-to-wall drunken college kids, so if that’s your thing both of these bars will be a safe bet for you.

Down the street from MacGrady’s, Starter’s Riverport will be having their “Green Party“. On their website they are promoting drink specials, live spinning from DJ Sweetlife, and “giveaways.” There’s no mention of a cover charge, but only a month ago they charged $5 at the door for their Mardi Gras party. Kinda lame considering they really didn’t do anything special. Let’s hope they don’t pull that again tomorrow. St Patrick himself would be very disappointed.

Just a short walk away at the Tally Ho Tavern, they are serving green beer, Irish food, and all the second hand smoke you can handle. They aren’t running any specials for the holiday but their weekly Friday night specials include $3 jaeger bombs, $2 well drinks, and $6 pitchers of Blue Moon.

Those are just some of the ideas I had for tomorrow night. What are you all planning? Anyone going on a pub crawl? Hope you guys are excited for tomorrow night, I know I am. Keep your eyes open for me, I’ll be the guy wearing green.
